It Just Ain't Here! Hi Everyone! Milford and Charlie were at the Palencia
Golf Club just north of Saint Augustine, Florida. The wind and noise across the open golf course ruined the recording
of this weeks broadcast. Perhaps in the near future, I can remove enough of the noise that we are able to post the
PodCast, but as of right now, the recording is unuseable.

flying this morning. Milford talked about his SNJ flight and about the new airplane he and three others bought.
It only cost them $1500 each! Listen to the show, we had a lot of fun!

There are stories about aviation walking amongst us. At Milford's home airport there is a
young line guy that has earned his pilot's license, no big deal right? Well it turns out he convinced his
dad to learn also and the two of them even bought into a J-3 Cub. It gets even better when you realize that
the dad's first instructor was a 92 year old gentleman that flew everything during WW2 while delivering them
to bases! This is grass roots flying at it's best.

This week the guys get to show case one of the great advantages of learning to fly. Geneva Allen
of NC-Airparks.com was the guest. When Geneva met her husband she had never been in an airplane before but found
out what a wonderful experience it is. When she retired as a school teacher she got her Realtor's license in
North and South Carolina and they started a real estate company based on aviation property. If you wanted to
look at many different ways to live with or near your airplane NC-Airparks.com is a great site to check out.
Geneva lost her husband a couple years ago but has continued the business and is getting ready to start pilot
training to help her get around the area quicker to show homes.
Charlie's son Jason was home on a short leave and after working him near to death building the hangar they
took a break and Jason and Milford went for a flight around the area. Jason is getting ready to start his
flight training when he comes back from his next cruise. Thanks again for your service Jason and stay safe!

Aviation Extravaganza In February, 2010. The weekend of fun will include a HUGE 1940's era "Swing
Dance", AND very rare WWII fighter and bomber aircraft for rides and display!
We had the HONOR to have WWII war hero Col. Phil Newman with us for the first Half of the show. He
talked about his 75 missions flying out of Italy in the European Theatre. Col. Newman will be at the show along with
other American war hero's. Be there and meet Tuskegee Airmen, Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASP),
and the pilots of WWII's "Decrepit Airmen".

Keck has started the International Biplane Association and is inviting everyone to join, even if you don't own an aircraft with spare
sets of wings. Go to www.internationalbiplane.com to check it out.
Milford also talks about his flight to Starkville, MS.

The Team had split up for this show. Milford was trying to fly to Mississippi, but had only made it as far
as Lake City Florida!... I could have driven to Lake City from the airport in an HOUR! He did eventually make
it to Mississippi and we will hear about the flight next show. Charlie had Scott along with him at
the Palatka, Kay Larkin Airport for a breakfast Fly-In put on by Trickworx
there at the Kay Larkin Airport (28J). The food was GREAT, and we were able to talk to several of the people
there at the Fly-in. One was Sam who had just returned from First Flight Airport at Kitty Hawk, NC. He had
been there when Orville and Wilbur made their flight and wanted to return for Old Time Sake! Scott and Charlie
met with the airport manager and even visited the Sky Diving Center there at Palatka.
Fun Flying and Some Interesting Facts!
In this week's episode Kelly O sits in with the guys and we talk different types of flying. We also get a call
from one of the instructors from North Florida Flight Training. Did you know that you can take your IFR check
ride in a full motion simulator? We didn't either.
Ear Plugs, and Flight Line Internet Radio!
Have you ever considered building your own in the ear headset? Well our guest today, Elvis Golden actually did
that. Listen in as he explains some of the things he encountered while experimenting. The guys also talk a little
about an upcoming day trip to Kitty Hawk and one of the chapter members had a new addition this week, that's right,
he bought a beautiful Van's RV-7. The big announcement for the day though was that
FlightTIME is now on
FlightLINE!

"Hell Hawks!" with Dr. Tom Jones, Astronaut
What a treat! The guys interviewed Dr. Tom Jones, the Astronaut NOT the singer. He co-wrote
"Hell Hawks!" The Untold Story Of The American Fliers Who Savaged The Wehrmacht. It is a great book
about the P-47 Thunderbolt pilots and the way they supported the ground troops in much the same way that the
P-51's protected the bombers. Well not only did we talk to Tom, but he brought along Mr. Ed Lopez, one of
the Original Hell Hawks and it was an honor to talk to a true American hero from the greatest generation! At the
end of the show we talked with Kelli-O about going on an IFR proficiency flight with Milford and Sam, and let her
describe popping in and out of clouds.
101 Years of Flying Memories!!
This was the first show in FlightTime Radio history that we were pre-emptied at the radio station. Florida State
Football gave us a day to go to the Airport and have some fun flying. Earlier though, Milford had the Honor and
Privilege to interview a 101 year old pilot! .... Yes, 101 years old! Listen as he talks about the "Golden Age
of Aviation."
On Remote from a "Sterling" location!
Free burgers and airplanes in the background! If there is free food and a airport involved the FlightTime Crew
will be there. The guys are at Sterling Flight Training and Malone Air Charter for their big cook out. Shawn
Knickerbocker also calls in from the Reno Air Races to report on the goings on out there.
LOOK Milford!!! It's a B-17!!
The Flighttime crew is at the airport this weekend for a special arrival, a B-17! The Liberty Belle is in town and the guys wanted
to be there for it. They also talk to Shawn Knickerbocker who will bin Reno next week covering the air races.
Swift Fuels!! Avgas Alternative??
A look to the future with Swift Fuels and a quick trip back in time with the B-17 Liberty Belle. We start our
show talking with Jon Zuilkowski of Swift Fuels and look at what may be an alternative to avgas. In the 2nd half
we preview the upcoming visit to Jacksonville of the Liberty Belle, the "newest" B-17 to take to the air.
Autolite Annie!!
This week we have Mr Fred Sontag in studio with us. Who is Fred? Well have you ever seen the Autolite Annie
poster? Ever heard of Unison Industries? Well THAT is who Fred is and he gives us some interesting history of
growing up in an aviation family.
WHERE's THE BBQ??!!
Where is Milford? Well he says that he is training to be a mentor for a young person but all we know is that he
is not here! More worries, Charlie and Shawn Knickerbocker hold the fort down in fine fashion and get to talk to
John Rimes who operates Flying Tiger Airpark. Flying Tiger holds a pancake breakfast once a month and once a
year they have a big BBQ. Mmmmm BBQ, what time is the show over?
SONEX! .. A Legend in Homebuilt Aircraft
This is a great show for homebuilders! Charlie and Milford get a chance to talk with Jeremy Monnett of
Sonex Aircraft about their new homebuilt jet project, the status of their electric aircraft, and ground
breaking ideas in general. The Monnett family is a well aviation rounded group with glider ratings in the
past and all kinds of new ideas for the future.
Flying with the Flamingos!
This week Milford is once again on the road, actually on the road driving to a family get together. ( I'm
wondering if Charlie just won't let him back in the studio.) The rest of the crew is broadcasting live from
Flamingo Lake, (Flamingolake.com) and enjoying life. Courtney drops by to tell about his 1952 Cessna 170 and
Charlie gets buzzed by the Florida Air National Guard.
Milford In Oshkosh!
Well this week Milford made his way, with much difficulty, to Oshkosh. He does bring some good interviews but the
funny thing is that during the first segment of the show you can't hear his audio!? Ain't technology great.
Well Charlie, Shy, and guest Scott are in the studio trying to hold everything down and after all, it is Oshkosh
week!
Oh, What A Day!
Have you ever seen a pair of shoes launched off a flight deck or been 20 feet away from a FA-18 when it landed?
Well Charlie did last week and he'll tell you all about it. Milford is getting ready to fly to Oshkosh in a
couple of days and can't wait. We gave away two more flights this week!
In Honor!
Last Saturday we lost 2 great pilots and good friends, both, American Heroes'! Milford starts out the show with a
little remembrance of them. Later in the show "Nascar Andy" drops in to talk a little flying with us. Charlie is
out playing Admiral (Lets hope he's not Captain Crunch!) with the U.S.S Harry S. Truman, but Milford and Shy hold
down the FlightTime Radio studio in his absence.
Pull-Up a Chair and Join Us!
This week the crew is on the road to the 'Fly By Cafe' at the Saint Augustine Airport (SGJ). While looking out the
window and watching Patty Wagstaff practice her aerobatic routine we interview Richard Steeves from Wisconsin. Richard is
the expert on everything "Coot". The Coot is an amphibious home built aircraft designed by Molt Taylor, better
known for the Aerocar, to my knowledge the only roadable aircraft with FAA approval.
Pull up a chair to the lunch counter and listen in.
HOT DOG!
Happy Fourth of July! We have cook outs and fireworks planned for later, but we still came in for a great
Saturday of talking airplanes. We gave away another flight in the "CT" from
North Florida Flight Training, from Sterling Flight Training, and the 'Round-trip' flight to the Bahamas
from Craig Air Center, too!
Jacksonville Sherriff's Office Aviation Unit. Bad Boys beware!
On this week's show we interview Jacksonville Sheriff's Office head of the aviation unit, Robert Highfill.
Robert tells us of some of the chases they have been involved in and other things such as finding lost people.
If you have ever wondered what a typical day is like for a sheriff's office pilot give us a listen! We gave
away another flight in the "CT" from North Florida Flight Training, too!
The studio is FULL of KIDS?!!! What a great show this week! Live at an airport in the middle of a bunch of kids getting airplane
rides, it don't get no better than that. No, wait,,,, it does if we get to go flying! Milford will do some Young Eagle flying when the show is over.
We also welcome a new member to Team Flighttime, Shy. Now that is her nickname but it is just short for her given name, Shethy and not a comment about her personality.
We also talked to a few of the kids .... and adults that had gone flying, AND gave away ANOTHER flight in
North Florida Flight Training's "CT"!
Family may be first, but FLYING is a VERY close second!!! This week Charlie is at a family reunion, but
Milford does get calls from a Hernando and Seymore that help pass the time. We also interview Matt Hansen who is a CFI that works with Able Flight to
help people who can't get a flight medical become sport pilots. (Sport pilots only need to have a valid driver's license.)
Sam's THE Man... In Aviation Art!! Milford and Charlie had a guy walking on the 4th floor ledge for the 3rd
weekend in a row and the computer was playing tricks on them but they still had fun talking airplanes! Their guest was world famous aviation artist
Sam Lyons. Sam called in from his home in North Georgia on a residential air park and the guys
talked the finer points of art,,,,, OK, Sam did that but Milford and Charlie were good listeners. Of course they gave away another flight from
North Florida Flight Training, too.
Charlie and KaZoo Man...Both Missing!! In this week's thrilling episode Charlie is missing! We've informed
the authorities and they are on the case. The winner of our glider flight give away, Scott Simpson, sits in studio to talk about his flight. We also
interviewed Nancy Aldrich who wrote the book "Captain Gramma". Nancy decided at the age of 37 to get her private pilot's license and pursue the left
seat in the heavy stuff,,,,, and she did it!
Milford's WHERE??? ....GONE FISHING!! This week Charlie is in charge of the studio by
himself as Milford sneaks off to South Florida to go fishing. When Milford does this it is called fishing because he never catches anything!
The Un-Remote Remote!! The guys were supposed to be live from St Johns Town Center with the
Thorp from Sterling Flight on display,,,, so much for their plans. After the phone lines don't work out they hot foot it to the studio and still
have a good time talking about flying.
ICE CREAM!! FLYING!! and Even Air Traffic Control!! In this week's show Charlie and
Milford talk about ice cream, kids, and flying, sounds like fun doesn't it. In the 2nd half of the hour John Fisher and Donna LeTellier
of Advanced ATC stop by to tell everyone that their school in Valdosta, Georgia is up and running now. This is a great opportunity for
someone to become an air traffic controller in just one year.
Tom McManus and Flight Giveaways Highlight the Show!!!! On this program we get to talk with Tom McManus, a
former linebacker with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Tom's dad was a B-24 pilot in WW2 who finished the war as a prisoner in Germany and he
wrote a book about his dad's experiences.
We also gave away a ride in Shawn Knickerbocker's SNJ, one in North Florida Flight Training's Flight Design CT, and a
Bahamas flight from
Craig Air Center.
It's Sun N Fun Week!!!! Milford drew the long straw and got to fly
down while Charlie manned the tower back home. Listen in as Milford tries to bring a little of what is happening in Lakeland this year
and as always we give away free flights.
LIVE From the Cecil Field Airshow! Milford and Charlie are having too much fun! This show is
live from the Cecil Field Air Show that was to benefit the Alan Henley Foundation. It raised $110,000 to help his family out. Listen in
as the guys describe the comings and goings during the show.
1st Cecil Field Airshow! The First Cecil Air Show is coming and that is what we are
talking about! Our first guest is Jimmy Fordham of Red Thunder, and he talks
formation aerobatics. During the 2nd half of the show we talk to two of the members of the North Florida Soaring Society because one of
the acts will be Manfrid Radius and his aerobatic glider routine. Milford and Charlie learn a lot about the art of soaring.
Oh yeah, we gave away 3 flights including one to the Bahamas!
Patty Wagstaff Visits and Talks about the Cecil Air Show Join Milford and Charlie as they interview Patty
Wagstaff about the upcoming Cecil Field Air Show which will have more performers than any air show in the country. The reason all the performers are
coming is to help Alan Henley, the Aero Shell aerobatic pilot that badly injured his spine playing with his two young children. We also talk with the
good folks from MS Research who also benefits from the air show, and of course like always we give away another free flight.
Milford Flies Solo! Where is Charlie?! Milford flies as a lonely Pilot In Command as Charlie gets some work
done on his hangar and J-3.
Military "War Stories"..... They were THERE! This Saturday two retired navy, retired airline, current
homebuilt pilots come on the show to tell flying tales. Listen as Mike Harris and Dave Dollarhide, aka Venom and Pennyskin tell things that could set
your hair on fire.
Milford and Charlie gave away another "Introductory Flight" offered by,
North Florida Flight Training over at Craig Airport.
Guest, Shawn Knickerbocker, Called in from Iraq! Milford and Charlie's guest this week called in from Iraq. YES...IRAQ!
Shawn Knickerbocker is in Iraq flying for the government. He couldn't talk about his mission there, but we did talk about his new WWII Navy Trainer.
It's an "SNJ", built by North American Aviation. The first "SNJ" flew in 1935, but Shawn's is a bit newer, having been built during the war. Shawn
will be returning from the middle east soon,a nd has offered to provide a ride to one of our listeners in the war-bird. Stay tuned and find out how
you can be the lucky winner!
Milford and Charlie gave away another "Introductory Flight" offered by,

Help the Children of our solders learn to FLY! Today, Charlie and Milford
are in the studio with Col. Jack Howel of "Teens-In-Flight
",and Steve Price, also of "Teens-In-Flight" and founder of "The
Stephen M. Price Foundation". These two men have joined forces with other aviation Greats like Judy Rice to bring
a sense of order and hope to teens. You remember Judy Rice; she is President and CEO of "Careers in Aviation", and was on our Show #7 and Show #44. Listen to
the show, and check out the web sites for these three organizations.
As you do, think back to the time you wished you could be on the other side of the fence.
Milford and Charlie gave away another "Introductory Flight" offered by,
North Florida Flight Training over at Craig Airport.
Arty Trost and Chris Leak ...ON THE SAME SHOW! Arty Trost and Chris Leak were the guests today. Arty is a
leading lady in our Nation in the aviation field and Milford had the pleasure to talk to Arty about her planned flight from Oregon to the
Sun-N-Fun Fly-in next month in Lakeland, Florida. Arty is a motivational speaker by trade, but a
SPORT pilot by choice, first and foremost! See Arty's web site at "www.lessonsfromtheedge
.com". A couple of things are a bit out of the ordinary for her planned flight though. First, it will be from the great northwest of the country
to the great southeast! Even that is an overwhelming accomplishment for a seasoned pilot, BUT, Arty is going to do it in and aircraft that weighs
about the same amount as Milford! Actually, it is closer to Charlie’s weight in reality! The aircraft is a 1984 Maxair Drifter and weights just
320 lbs and is powered by a 52hp two cycle engine! The flight will proceed south along the west coast to southern Cal-ah-four-knee-ah, then turn left
and fly I-F-R to Florida. In this case the I-F-R means “I Follow Roads!”(Interstate 10 in this case), not the standard aviation meaning of
“Instrument Flight Rules”…..after all, the thing don’t even have any instruments!
Listen to the show and get the entire TRUE story from the lady that is going to do it, Arty Trost.
Chris Leak of the Florida Gators was with Milford for the last fifteen minutes of the show. Milford was also joined by Robin in the FlightTime Radio
Studio. Robin is the Sports “Expert” for WBOB, FlightTime Radio’s host station.
Milford gave away another "Introductory Flight" offered by,
North Florida Flight Training over at Craig Airport.
FlightTime Radio Was ‘Live’ this week from the Keystone Heights Airpark (42J). Keystone is just a short
distance southwest of Jacksonville, and they hosted a HUGE weekend of aviation. The Collins Foundation was the guests of honor at the event and there
to support the "Wings of Dreams Aviation Museum" being built at the Keystone Airport.
Throughout the show and the weekend, fighters and bombers from WWII filled the skies over the airport with flight demonstrations, aerobatics and even
rides in the old ‘Warbirds’ and fighters. For the first ten minutes of the show, Milford had some audio technical difficulties with his microphone,
but had it cleared up by the second segment of the show. He and his guest, Glen Boyles talked with guests live there at the show and listeners calling
into the show by phone.
Milford and Glen gave away another "Introductory Flight" offered by our host,
North Florida Flight Training.
Listen next week because Milford will have Arty Trost on the show as well as Chris Leak.
Arty is a Professional Speaker, Ultralight Adventurer. Read about Arty at her site,
"Lessons From the Edge". Her ultralight adventures
were featured on National Public Radio in August, 2003. Stories about her long distance flights have been
published in newspapers and several national magazines.
Chris Leak is not an aviator, but we wanted Chris on the show to talk about his program that could change the
lives of young athletes everywhere. Chris led the National Champion Florida Gator Football Team to their first
SEC Championship since 2000, and a spot in the 2006 BCS National Championship Game against Ohio State University.
Chris also broke many University of Florida passing records set by Heisman Trophy winner Danny
Wuerffel. He eclipsed Wuerffel's record for career passing yards at Florida during the 2006 SEC championship
season.
"LIVE... From the FlightTime Radio Studio!" Milford and I met were back in the FlightTime Radio Studio with a
special guest. Bob Oehl is the Co-Founder of the "Wings of Dreams Aviation Museum"
located at the Keystone Heights Airpark, Keystone Heights, Florida.
The museum is the is being developed by the organization and will include; WarBird Restorations, Aerospace Education, Aviation Library, Veteran's History Project,
Aerospace Science Fair Awards, Heritage Flights, Warbird Rides, Veteran's Legacy Trail, WWII Reenactments, and a Civil Air Patrol Memorial.
On Friday, February 20, 2009, the Collins Foundation will arrive at the Keystone Heights Airpark with their collection of WWII aircraft. During the weekend,
there will be flight demonstrations, rides and tours of the Warbirds, and even flight lessons in the old machines that kept America Free!
Visit the "Wings of Dreams Aviation Museum" website and learn! There is also information
about how YOU could WIN a Beautiful Diamond DA40 XLS aircraft!
"Were Comming to You LIVE .. From North Florida Flight Training!" Milford and I met at
North Florida Flight Training over at Craig Airport. After setting up for the remote broadcast,
we jumped into their bright shinny new "RedBird" full motion flight simulator. Actually, Milford jumped in it while scrambled to set the equipment up,
but who am I to notice?! I finally got my opportunity to fly, taking over Milford's flight. He was at some nose bleed altitude over the Texas
countryside. I immediately pulled the power back to leave the 5000 ft. altitude and descend to a reasonable altitude.... maybe 700 or 800 ft.
I found an airport and managed to land, then take off again. I noticed some radio towers in the distance and headed that way. I flew between them a
couple of times before trying the "Red Bull" knife edge, ribbon cut while trying to weave in and out of the row of towers. To avoid a long story,
I'll just say that the flight ended in time for me to make the radio show and the professionals at
North Florida Flight Training with the difficult task of unwinding the simulator and clearing out the smoke from my crash!
Milford and I gave away another "Introductory Flight" offered by our host,
North Florida Flight Training.
We had a "Blast" doing the show, and flying the "RedBird"!
"It Was A REAL Kick!" Tom told us as he reported back on the introductory flight he had
won on FlightTime Radio in the Flight Design CT at North Florida Flight Training over at
Craig Airport. Right after we got Tom’s exciting story we gave away another Flight Design CT flight to Russell. After he visits
North Florida Flight Training, he plans to call us back as well.
Charlie and Milford were both in the FlightTime Radio Studio this morning and had Donato Martino from
US Sport Aircraft with us to talk about their Light Sport Aircraft. They represent both
GoBash Aircraft and the Czech Aircraft Works. During the second half of the show, we gave
away an hour in North Florida Flight Training’s new RedBird multi-axis flight simulator
to Mark. This time though we gave it away to the first person to send in an email to info@flighttimeradio.com with the announced code word in the
subject-line of the message. Shawn Okun joined us from Float Planes and Amphibs in Sebring, FL. We
had a very good discussion about the costs, requirements and the availability of aircraft for Light Sport Float Plane ratings.
Sure sounded like a LOT of fun!
Remote Broadcast from the Light Sport Expo, Sebring, Fl! Charlie was in the FTR Studio all alone, because
Milford had flown down to Sebring, Florida to visit the "Light Sport Expo". This was the 5the Expo and had much better weather than last years.
Milford managed to have Dan Johnson of LAMA, the "Light Aircraft Manufacturers Association"
as his first guest. Dan is recognized in the industry as the man with all the answers in the "Light Sport Aircraft" area. In the second segment,
Ken Goden of "Flight Design USA" talked about the aircraft Flight Design builds. Flight
Design is the builder of the aircraft used by North Florida Flight Training for the "Introductory" flights given away during the FTR shows. We gave
away another “Introductory Flight” from North Florida Flight Training at Craig Airport.
Herb, the winner promised to let us know how much he enjoys the flight. Jim Bede visited next
and talked about his projects during the third segment. Jim has designed dozens of very popular aircraft over the years and is still designing more.
During the last segment, Milford talked to Corkie Fornof. This is the second time Corkie has been on the show. Corkie is famous for his flying in
movies such as James Bond as well as air-show and aircraft racing, but talked to Milford about his newest love, the
"LoPriesti Fury"! Take a look at the aircraft on the LoPriesti Fury website! The show
ended long before Milford had a all of the guests. We will be sure to have them on coming shows.
FlightTime Radio Year 2 and Going Strong! It was a beautiful morning, almost TOO beautiful to be inside I the
FlightTime Radio Studio for the show, but We forced ourselves. Charlie and Milford opened the show talking a bit about the incredible water landing
of the U. S. Airways jet in the Hudson River between New Jersey and New York City. Everyone agreed that it was truly amazing! Discussion moved on to
the ease and simplicity of gaining your Sport Pilot rating and some of its restrictions. This led on into the giving away of ANOTHER “Introductory
Flight” from North Florida Flight Training at Craig Airport. Before we knew it, we
reached the end of our 55th FlightTime Radio Show.
FlightTime Radio Continues into it's 2nd year! Dick Bevington, called from high in the Colorado Rockies to share a portion of his life long passion with aviation and to tell
stories of his flying adventures through the past decades! He talked with Milford, Charlie and Brian about the military aircraft he had flow, adding
that he liked the T-38 Talon the best, but Aerobatics was his aviation love at this time. He also revealed that he has ordered a "Helicycle"
helicopter kit from "HELICYCLE©".
After Dick left, the winner of a previous "Discovery Flight", Steve, called to tell about his flight that had been provided by
Sterling Flight Center at Craig Airport. He loved the flight and was able to take his 4
year-old son along. His son noticed the rivers and streams of northeast Florida, and
referred to them as "Water Lizzards" because of the way they
twisted across the landscape below.
FlightTime Radio gave away ANOTHER "Discovery Flight"! Scott won the flight offered by the show sponsor
North Florida Flight Training. In the near future, Scott will be on the show to tell about
his flight!
FlightTime Radio's 1st Anniversy Show! We made it a Full year, and with this show, we are starting ANOTHER!
Brian and Milford were hosts to Mark Langford. Mark has built a Rand Robinson KR-2, and it is a BEAUTY!
After talking to Mark, Shawn Knickerbocker of Aviation Training and Consulting(see our Sponsors) called to tell us about his
"New" 1943 SNJ-5 Navy Flight Trainer. He purchased it in California and flew it back to Herlong Airport in Jacksonville. Milford and Brian spent
considerable "Smoozing" Shawn in a pitiful attempt to get a ride in it!
This week, as a Birthday Celebration, FlightTime Radio gave away 2 "Discovery Flights"! The first was from
North Florida Flight Training and was won by Keith. The second was from
Sterling Flight Center and was won by Alan. We are looking forward to hearing
from both of the winners to find out how they enjoyed their flights.
"It’s A Good Day for TONY!” That’s what Tony said and we agree! Tony was the winner of this weeks
Discovery Flight, donated by North Florida Flight Training
at Craig Airport. Tony had started to take Ground School to get his license back in the early 1980’s. Perhaps this will be the bug that bites Tony
and takes him all the way to his pilot’s license!
The heart of today’s discussion is about a program by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association
or AOPA. The program, “Project Pilot” by the AOPA focuses on new and
student pilots adopting a "Mentor" to help them along, encourage them, and even provide explanations to problems the student can’t seem to
overcome.
This discussion carried on to AOPA’s list of the 10 reasons students do not succeed. Perhaps, as a student, your problem is #4 or #7.
Well, We discussed all 10 of the items, and you may find the answer or guidance to finally finish your flight training and gain that pilot rating
you have spent so much time and money pursuing. Listen to the show and see!
It’s also a good day because it is FlightTime Radio’s 52nd show which completes ONE FULL YEAR of bringing the
Joy of Flying to everyone!
Brian and Milford were in the FlightTime Radio Studio and had Special Guest Kim Lovejoy join them from the
Military Heritage & Aviation Museum. The museum is a non-profit foundation that exists on donations alone.
The museum is located in “Fisherman’s Village” in Punta Gorda on Florida’s southwest coast. Kim described the wonderful
military and aviation displays. The museum is free to visit, but donations to help keep the museum open and the displays in first class condition
are always welcome. The museum is also interested in new displays. If you have military or aviation memorabilia and need a tax donation, consider
donating it to the museum and allow others to enjoy your part of the past.
Milford and Brian also talked about the new project being undertaken by Jacksonville’s EAA Chapter 193 and talked to Randy. Randy was the winner
of this weeks Discovery Flight, donated by North Florida Flight
Training at Craig Airport.
Brian and Milford were in the FlightTime Radio Studio and had Special Guest Lt. Co. Michelle Barrett of the
USAF Reserves. Lt. Col. Barrette spent many years flying America’s largest and most advanced Air Force Aircraft. She talked about her career
I the Air Force, including her time as Flight Instructor in C5 aircraft and even her flight time in Air Force gliders!
Lt. Col. Barrett’s visit to the show was to discuss the Freedom Award
. This award is the highest award given by the U. S. Government to Employers. The award is earned by the employers of Guardsmen and Reservists
for their support of the Guardsman/Reservists commitment to this nation’s military. Guardsmen and Reservists nominate their employer for the award
each year, and winners are selected from the nominations.
Remember to pass on a word of “Thanks!” to these companies for supporting the men and women that spend their time away from their families and
jobs to protect our freedoms.
Brian and Milford have Guest Ryan Ramos from Premier Aircraft Sales on the show to talk about his recent
delivery of a new Diamond DA-40 single engine aircraft to Brazil. His flight took him through the Caribbean and over the Amazon Rain
Forest to the customers private airstrip.
This week, John Fisher, Director of Advaned ATC along with Al Negy and
Advanced ATC CEO, Dan Cunningham were in the studio to talk about a new concept in
becoming an Air Traffic Controller. Currently, controllers attend
two or four year colleges to receive a degree or certificate of completion in Air Traffic Training. If you are then hired by the FAA as a controller,
you are then required to attend the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City, OK. In the past, the successful completion rate at the FAA Academy is generally
about 50 - 60%! Those that fail are out of a job with little or no chance to try again. At Advanced ATC, Training is very close to the actual
course taught by the government at the Academy except Advanced ATC also incorporates "State-of-the-Art simulators in the process of teaching. Upon
completion of the 52 week school, the graduate has earned a "Certified Tower Controller" rating or CTO as it is known in the industry. With this
certification, when hired by the FAA, you bypass the "Dreaded" FAA Oklahoma City Academy and proceed directly to an airport control tower. This
certification step is only offered by Advanced ATC. Currently, the Advanced ATC campus is in Valdosta, Georgia and is associated with Valdosta
Technical College. Other campuses are planned and may be opened near you in the not so distant future.
Milford and Brian had Guests Stephen Pallai and Dan Donahue it the studio. Stephen and Dan are from
North Florida Flight Training in Jacksonville, Florida at Craig Municipal Airport.
Brian and Milford received a lot of information from the flight instructors about the new "Sport Pilot" pilots license. This license
easy to get and opens a new world of fun for nearly anyone. They also discussed the new aircraft they have available just for training
pilots to receive their "Sport Pilot" license.
Milford and Brian have Dave Sclair as their guest. Dave developed and manages an organization called
“Living With Your Plane!” The organization maintains and provides information
on private airparks where you live one the airport. The homes in these parks incorporate hangars for their airplanes and provide runways
and taxiways to operate your private aircraft from. Dave’s website http://livingwithyourplane.com/
, provides an enormous amount of information about everything anyone needed to know about living in an airport community.
Brian and Milford were in the studio and have a very special guest. Jamail Larkins was the recipient
of and EAA Young Eagle Flight, and his career in aviation literally took-off! Jamail became the First Ambassador for Aviation & Space

them as "fit to fly" for the Federal Aviation Administration. Visit his web site at
www.dericksonvision.com
This week was one of our favorite shows. We had legendary aviation writer, photographer, flight instructor, and pilot of nearly everything
that has existed with wings, Bud Davisson on the show. Bud spoke to us about his writing and flight test reports, Pitts training, the Bearhawk,
and other subjects. We could probably talk to Bud for a dozen shows in a row and not run out of interesting things to talk about. Hopefully we
will have him on the show again soon.
By popular demand we had Shawn Knickerbocker back again. Shawn has been an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) for over 24 years. He instructs
in airplanes, helicopters, gliders, and motorgliders. Shawn is also a retired U.S. Customs airplane and helicopter pilot. He has over 20,000 flight
hours. We will spoke to EAA's head of Government Relations, Earl Lawrence, about the 51% rule and potential coming changes in homebuild
regulations.
If there is was a show to not miss, this week was it. We had three time U.S. National Aerobatic Champion Patty Wagstaff on the show this week.
Patty is one of the top competition and air show aerobatic pilots in the world. I could go on and on about Patty's numerous awards, achievements,
and contributions to aviation, but better to visit her web site at www.pattywagstaff.com and view her bio
and newsletters and check her schedule to see when she is performing near you. In the meantime check out these great videos:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wx_ui2qWgqI
http://www.youtube.com/ In keeping with our aerobatics themed
show we also had local aerobatics instructor and air show performer Keoki Gray. Keoki has 12 years experience in the air show industry and has been
a member of several aerobatics teams including five years with the Red Barron Squadron. Check out his web site at
www.ameliaislandaerobatics.com. Bill Wilson was also be on the show with us this week.

twins. Bill told us about a very unique and exciting new fly-in condo development project in Merritt Island, Florida. Visit their web site at
www.riverflyin.com.
We had an aviation education themed show this week. Most of us involved in aviation know how aviation can inspire young people. We also know
that aviation can be very expensive and can seem out of reach for many people. We had two guests this week that are working to change that.
Judy Rice is the president of Careers in Aviation (www.careersinaviation.org). Careers in Aviation
advances aerospace education and employment by fostering scholarships, by connecting students with available assistance, and by encouraging the
aviation industry, professional associations, government agencies, and the educational community to work together effectively supporting aviation
and space career development programs. Colonel Jack D. Howell is the president of Teens-in-Flight (
www.teens-in-flight.com). Teens-in-Flight provides flight training and aviation maintenance scholarships to those teens who have lost a parent
in the Global war on Terrorism or, is the teen of a parent who was wounded in action and is disabled. Another phase of our program also focuses on
selected teens that are considered "at risk" within our community by providing a positive aviation intervention experience. Our sponsor for
this week's show was Phoenix Flight Publications (www.phoenixflightpublications.com). They are
the publisher of the "Aviation Scholarship Directory" which lists practically every flight training scholarship in the U.S. and also includes
guides on how to help you get those scholarships. This book is a must have for anyone looking for money to fulfill an aviation goal for themselves
or their children.
We have a good show this week. We had a flight report from Brian's recent flight of the Urban Air Lambada motorglider (www.urbanairusa.com). Our first guest was Jim Haun. Jim is the son of author Col. James R. Haun.
He spoke to us about some of his father's experiences from his book "Spitfire Wingman" (
www.spitfirewingman.com). Our second guest was be Greg Vretis from Tomlinson Aviation. Tomlinson was our show sponsor this week. They do
helicopter flight training, new helicopter sales, maintenance, charters, and parts sales. This was be very informative for those wanting careers as
helicopter pilots as well as all of us that have just considered learning to fly a helicopter for fun. Milford and Brian plan to get some helicopter
instruction from Tomlinson in the next few weeks and report back on their experience.
February 2 was our fifth show. Our guest this week was Shawn Knickerbocker. Shawn has been an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) for over 24
years. He instructs in airplanes, helicopters, gliders, and motorgliders. Shawn is also a retired U.S. Customs airplane and helicopter pilot. He
has over 20,000 flight hours. We also had Charlie Willwerth back on the show.
January 26th was our fourth show and was two hours long. We had Master CFI and banner tow operator Joel Weaner talking about tail-wheel transition
training, spin training, and adventures in banner towing. Charlie Willwerth also came back as a guest co-host and told more good air traffic control
stories.
January 19th was our third show and was again two hours long. We had Ben Burbridge as a guest. Ben shared some of his many adventures in
ballooning. This show was a lot of fun and we are sure that you will enjoy it.
January 12th was our second show and was two hours long. We had Mike Steen on talking about wing-suit BASE jumping and other extreme aviation
sports. Al Sasser was our in studio guest speaking to us about hang gliding.
January5 was our first show! We seemed to get through it O.K. Our first guest was Charlie Willwerth. Charlie is a retired air traffic
controller. Charlie is also a pilot and homebuilder and is currently finishing a homebuilt Cub. We learned a little more about what happens on
the other side of the radio and heard some good stories. We had some good calls in to the show and had a great time.
